Somalia Licenses Starlink in Major Boost to Internet Access

GOOBJOOG NEWS|MOGADISHU: Somalia has opened doors to the Elon Musk-Starlink internet provider in a major boost to expanding internet offering services in the country.

The National Communications Authority of Somalia (Somalia-NCA) handed the operating license to Starlink representatives at a function in Mogadishu on Sunday.

NCA Director General Mustafa Yaasin Sheik said the ‘the entry of Starlink into Somalia represents a significant milestone in our efforts to bridge the digital divide in our country.’

On his part, the Minister of Communications and Technology. Mohamed Mo’allim emphasized government support: “We welcome Starlink. This aligns with our vision to deliver affordable and accessible internet services to all Somalis.”

Starlink which operates via satellite technology does not require physical equipment on the ground to operate enabling it to reach even the remotest parts of the country.
