Somalia Marks Islamic New Year with Message of Peace and Unity
GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Federal Government of Somalia Information, Culture and Tourism minister Abdifatah Qasim Mohamud, has extended his congratulations to Somalis and Muslims around the world on the occasion of the Islamic New Year 1448 AH.
In a message marking the start of the new Hijri year, the minister expressed hope that the year would bring peace, stability and prosperity to Somalia and its people.
He prayed for the country to continue on a path of unity and development, saying he hoped the year would be marked by lasting progress and greater opportunities for citizens across the nation.
The Islamic New Year, also known as Hijri New Year, marks the beginning of the Islamic lunar calendar and commemorates the migration of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) from Mecca to Medina, an event regarded as a defining moment in Islamic history.
The occasion is observed by Muslims worldwide through prayers, reflection and messages of goodwill, with leaders in many Muslim-majority countries using the day to call for peace, reconciliation and social cohesion.
The minister’s message comes as Somalia continues efforts to strengthen security, advance development and promote national unity amid ongoing political and economic challenges.
