GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Somalia has outlined plans to reform traffic laws and improve road safety following a consultative meeting aimed at addressing congestion and transport challenges in the capital.

The Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation said the meeting brought together officials from multiple government agencies, including health, public works and security institutions, alongside traffic police and private sector representatives.

Participants agreed on the need to update traffic legislation to reflect current conditions, with proposals focused on clearer regulations, stronger enforcement and improved coordination among agencies.

Officials also highlighted plans to expand public awareness campaigns to promote safer road use and shared responsibility among drivers and pedestrians.

The ministry said improving road safety and easing congestion are key to supporting economic activity and public safety, noting that inefficient transport systems and traffic accidents continue to affect productivity.

The meeting forms part of broader efforts by the government to modernise infrastructure and develop a more efficient and safer transport network.
