Somalia, Oman Hold High-Level Talks in Muscat on Bilateral Ties and Horn of Africa Security
GOOBJOOG NEWS|MUSCAT: Somalia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation AbdisalamAli, held official talks on Saturday with Sayyid Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi during an official visit to Oman, with discussions centered on strengthening bilateral cooperation and regional stability.
The meeting, held at the Omani Foreign Ministry headquarters in Muscat, reviewed ways to deepen relations between Somalia and Oman across key sectors, reflecting what both sides described as a longstanding partnership and shared interests.
According to a statement from Somalia’s Foreign Ministry, the ministers also exchanged views on developments in the Horn of Africa, emphasizing the need for coordinated regional and international efforts to support security, stability and sustainable development.
A key outcome of the talks was Oman’s renewed backing for Somalia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. Omani Foreign Minister Badr Al Busaidi reaffirmed Muscat’s support for the unity of Somalia and reiterated Oman’s position of non-recognition of entities outside the framework of the Somali state.
The statement is likely to be viewed as diplomatic support for Mogadishu amid ongoing tensions over Somalia’s territorial integrity and disputes involving breakaway Somaliland.
For his part, Minister Abdisalam Ali thanked Oman for what he described as its constructive diplomatic role and continued efforts to promote dialogue, reconciliation and regional stability.
Officials from both governments attended the meeting, underscoring growing engagement between Mogadishu and Muscat as Somalia seeks to broaden ties with Gulf partners and strengthen regional diplomacy.
