Somalia, Saudi Arabia Hold High-Level Talks as Ties Continue To Deepen
GOOBJOOG NEWS | RIYADH: Somalia’s ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Mohamed Amin Sheikh Osman, has held talks with Saudi Deputy Foreign Minister Waleed Al-Khuraiji in Riyadh, as the two countries seek to strengthen cooperation and expand their longstanding partnership.
The meeting focused on bilateral relations and ways to advance cooperation in areas of shared interest, according to a statement from the Somali embassy. The talks come amid growing engagement between Somalia and Gulf states, particularly in trade, investment, security and development cooperation.
Saudi Arabia is one of Somalia’s most important partners in the Middle East and a major market for Somali livestock exports, a sector that underpins the livelihoods of millions of people across the Horn of Africa nation.
Relations between Mogadishu and Riyadh have gained momentum in recent years through a series of diplomatic exchanges and economic initiatives aimed at strengthening ties between the two countries.
The latest meeting reflects continued efforts by both governments to build on their historical relationship and explore new opportunities for cooperation at a time when Gulf nations are increasing their economic and strategic engagement across the Horn of Africa.
Saudi Arabia has also remained an important source of humanitarian and development assistance to Somalia, supporting programmes in health, education, food security and emergency relief.
Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to further enhancing cooperation and maintaining close coordination on issues of mutual concern, highlighting what they described as the strong and enduring relationship between the two nations.
The talks took place as Somalia continues to pursue deeper economic and diplomatic partnerships with regional and international allies in support of its reconstruction and development agenda.
