Somalia: security forces snatch explosive devices hidden in a container at Mogadishu sea port

The Security agencies of the federal government of Somalia have seized new military uniforms, hand knives and magnetic devices used for explosives hidden in a container at Mogadishu sea Port on Tuesday.

The explosive devices and the other items were detected during an operation by a group of the police officers operating in the seaport

An official who spoke on a condition of anonymity as he is authorized to speak to the media said the police officers went to the container as part of their work to check items imported and those exported from the port and immediately found the devices.

National Security Minister Khalif Ahmed Ereg who reached the port after the police seized the container said the security agencies will conduct further scrutiny to make out those in charge of imported items.

“ The government will pursue those behind this scandalous act and will bring then to the justice” the minister Khalif Ereg said.

He urged the police officers operating in the sea port to intensify their search operations so as to thwart future plans of importing serious explosive device that threatens the security of the country particularly Mogadishu, the capital.
