GOOBJOOG NEWS | NAIROBI: Somalia is stepping up efforts to expand access to affordable housing, holding talks with U.N. officials and a private firm to develop solutions for displaced and low-income communities.

State Minister for Public Works and Housing Said Mohamed Mahmoud (Xayd) led the meeting at the Somali embassy in Nairobi, alongside Ambassador Jabril Ibrahim Abdulle, bringing together UN-Habitat and ADHI Africa Holding Ltd.

Discussions focused on building durable and inclusive housing tailored for internally displaced people, low-income households and other vulnerable groups affected by displacement and rapid urbanisation.

The initiative aims to strengthen cooperation between the government, international partners and the private sector to support sustainable urban development and improve infrastructure.

Somalia faces a growing housing shortage driven by years of conflict, climate shocks and population movements, with many families living in informal settlements.

Federal government officials say partnerships such as this are key to delivering long-term, people-centred housing solutions and improving living conditions across the country.
