Somalia, Sri Lanka Seek Closer Ties in Education, Trade
GOOBJOOG NEWS | COLOMBO: Somalia and Sri Lanka have moved to revive bilateral relations, with Somalia’s ambassador to India meeting Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake in Colombo to discuss expanding cooperation.
Ambassador Abdullahi Maxamed Odowaa said the talks focused on restoring direct engagement between the two countries and strengthening collaboration in key sectors.
Both sides identified opportunities in education, trade and knowledge exchange, highlighting the potential for partnerships that could support skills development and economic growth.
The meeting signals a broader push by Somalia to deepen diplomatic and economic ties beyond the Horn of Africa, as it seeks new partnerships to support reconstruction and development.
Sri Lanka, which has been expanding its outreach to African nations, has in recent years explored avenues for cooperation in education and trade as part of its wider foreign policy engagement.
