Somalia Steps Up Baxnaano Programme Implementation in Nairobi Talks
GOOBJOOG NEWS | NAIROBI: The Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs has moved to accelerate the rollout of its flagship social protection programme, Baxnaano, during a week-long coordination mission with international partners in Nairobi.
The implementation support mission, aimed at strengthening delivery and coordination, brought together government officials, the World Bank and the World Food Programme (WFP) to review progress and address operational challenges.
Opening the session, Labour Minister Prof. Salim Aliyow Ibrow said the programme remains central to Somalia’s efforts to expand social protection and support vulnerable households.
World Bank representatives and Baxnaano programme officials highlighted the initiative’s growing importance, noting its role in providing cash support and safety nets to communities affected by poverty and climate shocks.
Director General Mohamed Saney Dalmar welcomed progress made so far and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to sustaining and scaling up the programme.
Officials also discussed ways to improve service delivery and coordination, as Somalia works with partners to strengthen its social protection systems and build resilience among vulnerable populations.
