Somalia Steps Up Diaspora Outreach with South Africa Visit
GOOBJOOG NEWS | JOHANNESBURG: Somalia has stepped up efforts to engage its diaspora with a high-level visit to South Africa, aimed at strengthening economic ties and improving services for citizens abroad.
Deputy Foreign Minister Hassan Mohamed Ali (Nadara) arrived in Johannesburg leading a delegation that includes senior officials from the diaspora department.
He was received at O.R. Tambo International Airport by Somalia’s acting ambassador, Ismail Abdulle Somane, and embassy staff.
The visit follows an invitation from the Somali community in South Africa and is expected to focus on expanding investment opportunities, enhancing consular support and deepening cooperation between the government and diaspora groups.
The outreach is part of a broader strategy to harness the economic potential of Somali communities overseas, whose remittances and business networks play a vital role in the country’s economy.
Somalia has increasingly turned to its diaspora as a key partner in reconstruction and development, as it seeks to rebuild institutions and attract investment after decades of conflict.
