Somalia Steps Up Peace Education Efforts to Support Stability
GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Somalia has moved to strengthen coordination on peace education programmes, as officials met in Mogadishu to advance efforts aimed at supporting long-term stability and reconciliation.
The Ministry of Interior, Federal Affairs and Reconciliation convened a meeting of the National Peace Education Steering Committee, bringing together senior government officials and stakeholders from federal and state institutions.
Chaired by Kamal Gutale, Permanent Secretary at the Office of the Prime Minister, the session focused on aligning national priorities and improving coordination to accelerate the rollout of peace education initiatives.
Officials said the programmes are intended to promote social cohesion and support broader peacebuilding efforts across the country.
The meeting also highlighted the importance of institutional collaboration in delivering effective education strategies aimed at fostering reconciliation after years of conflict.
Somalia has in recent years increased focus on non-military approaches to stabilisation, including education and community-based initiatives, as part of wider efforts to rebuild trust and strengthen national unity.
