Somalia Launches Push To Modernise Passport and Immigration Services
GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Somalia’s foreign ministry and immigration authorities have agreed to establish a joint technical team aimed at improving coordination on passports, consular affairs and immigration services.
Foreign Minister Abdisalam Abdi Ali held talks in Mogadishu with Hussein Qasim Yusuf, head of the Somali Immigration and Citizenship Agency on Thursday, as the federal government pushes ahead with reforms designed to modernise public services.
The two sides discussed closer cooperation on the issuance and management of diplomatic, service and official passports, alongside measures to improve immigration procedures and institutional coordination.
Ali said the newly proposed technical committee will focus on streamlining government travel documentation, strengthening information-sharing and improving services linked to citizenship and migration.
The meeting comes as Somalia seeks to enhance the credibility and efficiency of state institutions following years of administrative challenges linked to conflict and weak infrastructure.
The federal government has in recent years increased efforts to digitize public services, strengthen border management and improve consular coordination as international travel and diplomatic engagement continue to expand.
