GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Somalia’s electoral commission has begun training poll workers in key regions ahead of planned elections, as the country step up preparations for upcoming votes.

The National Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission said the programme is under way in Wanlaweyn district in Lower Shabelle, with similar sessions being conducted in Xudur in the Bakool region.

Officials said the training focuses on voter registration procedures, polling station management, vote counting and ensuring transparency throughout the electoral process.

The initiative is part of broader preparations for coordinated elections expected to take place across several federal member states, including South West, Hirshabelle, Galmudug and Jubbaland.

Somalia has been working to expand its electoral processes and strengthen institutions as it moves toward broader democratic participation following decades of indirect voting systems.

The training comes amid heightened efforts to ensure credible and orderly polls in regions where security and logistical challenges have previously affected election timelines.
