Somalia, Turkey Deepen Military Pact to Combat Terrorism

GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Somalia and Turkey have pledged to expand their defense and security partnership following high-level talks between Somalia’s Minister of Defense, Jibriil Abdirasheed Haji, and Turkish Ambassador Alper Aktaş in Mogadishu.
The meeting, held at the Ministry of Defense headquarters, focused on accelerating joint efforts to strengthen Somalia’s national defense capabilities and deepen military collaboration.
Ambassador Aktaş reaffirmed Turkey’s long-term commitment to supporting Somalia’s stability and sovereignty, particularly through training, equipping, and advising the Somali National Army.
“Türkiye remains a steadfast ally of Somalia in its fight against terrorism and in building a capable, professional defense force,” said Ambassador Aktaş, who also congratulated Minister Jibriil on his recent appointment.
Minister Jibriil praised Turkey’s consistent support, calling it a cornerstone of Somalia’s defense development. He welcomed the continued cooperation as essential to restoring national security and advancing regional peace.
The meeting signals a renewed push by both countries to reinforce strategic ties and combat common security threats in the Horn of Africa.
