Somalia, UN Step up Cooperation on Economy and Climate Challenges
GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Somalia and the United Nations have reaffirmed plans to deepen cooperation on economic recovery and climate resilience following high-level talks in Mogadishu.
Finance Minister Bihi Iman Egeh met senior UN officials, including Assistant Secretary-General Shoko Noda and UNDP’s representative in Somalia Lionel Laurens, to review the country’s economic outlook and ongoing development efforts.
The discussions centred on the growing impact of droughts, floods and climate change, which continue to strain livelihoods and slow economic progress.
Both sides agreed on the need to scale up support for resilience-building programmes, while accelerating development projects aimed at stabilising the economy and promoting sustainable growth.
The meeting comes as Somalia works with international partners to transition from humanitarian response to longer-term development, with a focus on strengthening institutions and reducing vulnerability to recurring climate shocks.
