GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Deputy Prime Minister, Salah Ahmed Jama, has reaffirmed the country’s strong and longstanding ties with Italy, describing the relationship as one built on decades of friendship and cooperation.

Speaking during celebrations marking Italy’s Republic Day in Mogadishu, Salah extended congratulations to the Italian people and government, while highlighting the historical bonds linking the two nations.

“The day commemorates the 1946 referendum in which the Italian people chose to establish a republic instead of a monarchy,” the Deputy Prime Minister said. “On behalf of the Federal Government of Somalia, I congratulate the people and leadership of Italy on this important national occasion.”

Salah said Somalia highly values its enduring partnership with Italy, which has remained one of the country’s closest European allies and a key supporter of Somalia’s development, institution-building and recovery efforts.

His remarks come at a time when the Federal Government is seeking to strengthen relations with international partners as it advances reforms, economic development and reconstruction initiatives across the country.

Italy has maintained close ties with Somalia for decades and continues to support projects in education, healthcare, governance, infrastructure and security. The two countries have also expanded cooperation in areas such as vocational training, cultural exchange and capacity building.

The Deputy Prime Minister’s message underscored Mogadishu’s commitment to further deepening cooperation with Rome and building on a relationship that both countries describe as strategic and mutually beneficial.

The remarks reflect Somalia’s broader diplomatic approach of strengthening partnerships with countries that have played a significant role in supporting the country’s state-building and development agenda.
