GOOBJOOG NEWS|HARGEISA: Hargeisa has responded to yesterday’s incident whereby the Somali Ambassador to Kenya, Mohamed Nur Tarzan stormed out of a diplomatic meeting hosted by Kenya’s Head of State Uhuru Kenyatta, due to Somaliland’s presence at the meeting.

In a statement issued by the Somaliland Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Somaliland Government said it was disappointed by the actions taken by the Ambassador of Somalia, who walked out of a luncheon intended for the diplomatic community in Nairobi and hosted by President Kenyatta.

The Somaliland Government opined that the Ambassador of Somalia expressed “his views on the participation of the Republic of Somaliland at the event”.

“This clearly demonstrates the hatred and long-term enmity of Somalia towards the Republic of Somaliland and its people”.

The Republic of Somaliland is a sovereign, independent and democratic country that aspires to live in peace and tranquility with our neighboring countries, that includes Somalia”, added the statement.

Somalia and Somaliland have been on loggerheads for a period spanning decades, with the current diplomatic tiff projected to further strain the already fragile relations existing between the two.
