Southwest State Leadership Seeks Continuity through Engagement with Former Cabinet
GOOBJOOG NEWS | BAIDOA: Southwest State President Abdiaziz Hassan Mohamed Laftagareen’s successor, Sheikh Aden Mohamed Nur (Madoobe), met former members of the regional administration’s cabinet on Wednesday in a move aimed at promoting institutional continuity and strengthening cooperation as the state pursues governance and development priorities.
The meeting focused on exchanging views and drawing on the experience of former officials to improve public administration, reinforce government institutions and enhance service delivery across Southwest State.
Madoobe thanked the former cabinet members for their contribution to building the regional administration, saying their experience and advice would help guide efforts to improve governance and accelerate development programmes.
Former cabinet members pledged to support the new administration, expressing their willingness to contribute to initiatives aimed at promoting peace, reconciliation, social cohesion and institutional development in the federal member state.
The meeting comes as Southwest State’s new leadership begins to shape its policy agenda following the formation of a new regional cabinet earlier this month. The administration has identified governance reforms, security, reconciliation and economic development among its key priorities.
Southwest State, one of Somalia’s federal member states, remains strategically important due to its agricultural potential and its role in ongoing efforts to stabilise areas affected by the Islamist militant group al Shabaab. Strengthening regional institutions and fostering political consensus are seen as central to broader state-building efforts across Somalia.
