GOOBJOOG NEWS|MOGADISHU: The United Nations Transitional Assistance Mission in Somalia (UNTMIS) has welcomed an invitation by the Federal Government of Somalia to convene talks under the Somalia Future Forum—an umbrella platform bringing together opposition leaders, including former senior officials and key political stakeholders.

President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud extended the invitation on Saturday, as political pressure intensifies from opposition groups over the fate of upcoming elections, with his current term set to lapse on May 15.

In a statement, UNTMIS described the forum as a critical opportunity to reach sustainable solutions on key national priorities, while reinforcing political dialogue and unity at a sensitive transitional moment.

The mission urged all stakeholders to engage in the process with transparency, sincerity, and goodwill, emphasizing the need for an outcome that reflects a broad-based national consensus.

UNTMIS also reaffirmed its commitment to continue supporting Somali-led efforts aimed at resolving the country’s political challenges and advancing long-term stability.
