Urgent solution needed to resolve IDP issue in Mogadishu

GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Banadir region Mayor Yusuf Hussein Jimaale has stressed the need the issue of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) within Mogadishu.

Speaking while chairing a meeting attended by other officials and administrators from Banadir, the mayor also noted that there are several other issues that need an urgent solution within the region.

He emphasized emphasized the need for comprehensive strategies to tackle the IDP issue so as to ensure a dignified life for all citizens within the capital and underlined the prioritization of the agendas set forth by the Durable Solutions Unit.

The surge of IDPs within Mogadishu has been attributed to several factors affecting the region including insecurity and drought that has caused famine resulting in mass displacement of people.

Government’s efforts to rid Banadir region of Al-shabaab has restored relative peace in Mogadishu causing an influx of persons from nearby areas to seek refuge within the city.

The Durable Solutions Unit headed by Zeinab Ahmed has so far devised plans which are geared towards resolving the challenges facing the IDPs signifying the government’s commitment to ensure better living conditions for people within Mogadishu.
