Wajir County marked International Day Of Forests on Saturday by setting a target to plant one million trees.
The tree planting is aimed at mitigating the severe drought which affects the region every year.
The tree planting is a counter measure to deforestation in the county where many trees are cut down for charcoal and limestone production.
The Day was celebrated at Sanbuley Boys Secondary School with each student receiving one tree to plant.
Abdirahman Mohamed CEC for Environment said his department will make sure each family in the county plants one tree inside and outside their plots to “paint the County green,”
Muhobo Arte, Chief Officer for Environment said the County Assembly will pass legislation to fight deforestation and illegal logging.
