At Least 13 Puntland Soldiers Killed in Explosion in Bari Region

GOOBJOOG NEWS | GAROWE:  A landmine explosion Monday killed at least 13 Puntland soldiers and injured more than seven others at Habley area, Bari region.

Military sources say the soldiers who were engaged in counter-terrorism operations against ISIS militants in the region were killed after their military vehicle ran over an explosive device.

The sources added that the attack is believed to have been carried out by ISIS operatives using a roadside mine to target the military convoy. 

The attack comes a few days after Puntland officials visited Tasjiic area to mobilize the community to support the operation through livestock donations, aimed at boosting the morale of security forces involved in operations.

The attack highlights the escalating challenges faced by Puntland forces in their campaign to root out ISIS militants operating in the mountainous areas of Bari.
