Trading has resumed in Marka town after weeks of violence and security restrictions that engulfed the whole town.
“The trade centres are open for business and there are no restrictions of any kind hampering their activities,” Abdi Haji a trader in Marka town.
The town has seen increasing hit and run attacks on Somali and AU troops by fighters of Al shabaab for last two weeks which had impact the trade and movements of people and vehicles as the security forces in town carrying series of security operations hunt down the perpetrators.
The violence in the town in general, caused a 50 to 100 percent price increase in basic necessities, including transport, water, food and other non-food items, according to civil society organisations.
“We have been in talks with the government for the last three days and we are still meeting with officials in order to stop this problem,” Farah Abshir told media on Saturday.
“The administration has reassured us all the grievances we have reported will be resolved and we have agreed to re-open the business centres today,” he said.
