First phase of the war against Al-shabaab almost complete, President Mohamud says

GOOBJOOG NEWS | DHUSAMAREB: Federal Government of Somalia president Sheikh Hassan Mohamud has said the first phase of the war against the Al-shabaab militants was almost complete and that most parts of Galmudug and Hirshabelle States have been liberated.

The president during the 17th anniversary of the Galmudug state where he congratulated the locals for their continued support of the government’s efforts to stabilize the country.

“There may be some areas in Hirshabelle and Galmudug States where the Al-shabaab miltants still have hideouts but the local residents are ready to eliminate them and liberate their homeland,” President Hassan said.

He added that the Somali National Army and the local forces are headed to those areas where the militants are still hiding in both States with the aim of flushing them out.

“There will be a day that we will meet at a ceremony like this one in the States that we are heading to liberate starting with Jubbaland and Southwest States. We will meet at their capital cities once they eliminate the enemy together with the Somali Army,” he added.

He added that the government was keen to foster reconciliation between the Somali people noting that this was key for the development of the country and building a nation free of conflict.

The President also praised the Cabinet led by Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre for passing crucial legislations such as the debt relief bill which he said was crucial for the development of the country.
