Fisheries Ministry Issues Warning Against Illegal Fishing
GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Federal Government of Somalia’s Ministry of Fisheries and Blue Economy has issued a stern warning to fishing companies and ship owners operating along the Somali coast to strictly operate within the laws contained in the Federal Fisheries Law of Somalia.
According to a statement by the ministry, legal action will be taken against anyone found to have operated against the Federal Fisheries Law of the federal government of Somalia directives.
“According to Article 31, violation of this law can result in fines, arrests, confiscation of the fish taken and the confiscation of the equipment’s used,” the ministry said in a statement.
Last month, Somalia released Iranian fishermen who had been arrested for engaging in illegal fishing along the coast of Somalia
The steps by the federal government of Somalia underscores the importance of Somalia’s efforts to combat illegal fishing and strengthen its marine governance.
