Galmudug Presidential Guard Sentenced to Death for Killing Motorist

GOOBJOOG NEWS|DHUSAMAREB: A soldier attached to Galmudug Presidential Guard has been sentenced to death for shooting dead a motorist.

A military court sitting in the state capital Dhusamareb condemned Farhan Jama Siyad to face the firing squad after it found him guilty of the offence.

In his defence, Siyad said the deceased, a motorcyclist failed to stop at a checkpoint he was manning forcing him to open fire. The motorcyclist died on the spot while another soldier who was nearby sustained bullet wounds.

He claimed that he thought the deceased was a suicide bomber. The defendant has 30 days to appeal the court’s decision.
