Government ready to address flood emergencies, PM Hamza says
GOOBJOOG NEWS | GEDO REGION: The Federal Government of Somalia has put in place adequate measures to address humanitarian situations caused by floods due to the ongoing heavy downpour in several parts of the country, Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre has said.
Speaking at Dolow district, Gedo region during a tour to assess the humanitarian situation in the area, the Prime Minister said that the government is closely monitoring the situation and is actively working with humanitarian organizations and international partners to address the challenges posed by the floods.
“The floods are still going on, people need to be careful not to return to the affected areas, they need to beware, we are working hard to resolve the situation,” he said.
The Prime Minister further stated that he will visit other parts of the region which have been affected by the floods so as to understand the humanitarian needs of residents in the areas and that the government will reconstruct all bridges that have been destroyed.
At the same time, the Prime Minister Hamza called on humanitarian agencies and the Somali people to support government efforts to provide relief aid to affected people across the country.
Tens of thousands of people across the country are facing dire humanitarian crisis due to the ongoing heavy downpour attributed to the El-Nino rains which has seen several rivers break their banks, causing deaths, displacement and destruction of property.
