At least 8 people killed in heavy clash between Somali forces and Al-Shabaab in Bay region

Eight people have been killed in a fierce fight between Somali forces and the militant group Al-Shabaab in Gofgadud-Shabellow in Bay region.

Goobjoog News correspondent in the area reports that the fighting started at 4am local time and both sides are still exchanging heavy artillery fire.

“The two sides clashed at around 4am and fighting has been going on until now. Eight people from both sides have been killed,” our correspondent says.

A Somali army technical transporting a reinforcement force from Baydhabo was destroyed when it hit a landmine.

Unconfirmed reports say the militants took hold of a military vehicle.
