Lower House Standing Committee Opens Retreat to Prepare Agenda for Eighth Parliamentary Session

GOOBJOOG NEWS|MOGADISHU: The House of the People Standing Committee on Tuesday officially opened a consultative retreat aimed at preparing the legislative agenda and work plan for the Eighth Session of the Federal Parliament.

The meeting was chaired by Acting Speaker and First Deputy Speaker of the House of the People, Sadia Yasin Haji Samatar, alongside Second Deputy Speaker Abdullahi Omar Abshiroow. House Auditor MP Mohamed Abdullahi Hassan (Nuh) also attended the opening session.

During the retreat, members of the Standing Committee are expected to deliberate on the work plan for the Eighth Session, the parliamentary sitting schedule, priority legislation awaiting debate, and other key issues intended to improve the performance and effectiveness of the House.

At the opening, Secretary General of the House of the People Abdirahman Mohamed Abdulle (Jaabiri) briefed committee members on the meeting’s procedures and outlined the main agenda items that will be discussed throughout the retreat.

Addressing the gathering, Second Deputy Speaker Abdullahi Omar Abshiroow thanked committee members for attending, describing the retreat as a critical platform for planning and accelerating the House’s work ahead of the Eighth Session. He said the meeting would play an important role in strengthening the institution’s legislative processes and overall efficiency.

Officially inaugurating the retreat, Acting Speaker Sadia Yasin Haji Samatar emphasized the importance of the meeting in coordinating parliamentary activities and developing a clear roadmap for addressing issues of priority to the Somali people.

She urged members of the Standing Committee to conduct their deliberations with professionalism, responsibility, and cooperation to ensure decisions that would strengthen the work of Parliament and benefit the country.

Sadia also reaffirmed that the House of the People remains committed to fulfilling its constitutional mandate, particularly in the areas of lawmaking, oversight of the executive, and representing the interests of the Somali people.
