Pro Impeachment MPs heed speaker’s call for consultation
A section of MPs who tabled impeachment motion against the president last months has now heeded the call by parliament speaker for consultations between the two camps of MPs and the president, represented by the Prime Minister.
In a news conference yesterday the MPs numbering 10 said they represent most of the 93 MPs who brought the motion and said that they are ready for talks with the president to address those issued they accused him, including corruption and violation of the constitution.
MP Amina Omar said “We will never do away with the impeachment motion, what we are doing in obeying the speaker’s decision and follow the procedure”.
On 4th of September, the speaker issued a four points plan to deal with the motion after uncertainty about the legal procedures as it was the first time to impeach a president in Somalia’s history.
But pro president MPs who want to break the impeachment motion have rejected the speaker’s call, and asked him to confirm their countering motion.
The latest move by the impeachment MPs seems to ease the political deadlock in the country.
