Somali Lawmakers Rally Behind Troops as Anti-Al-Shabaab Offensive Gains Pace

GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Somali lawmakers pledged strong support for national and regional forces battling the Al-Shabaab insurgents, as military operations against the extremist group intensified across the country.

In a meeting held in Mogadishu on Friday, members of both parliamentary houses praised the army’s recent gains and vowed to stand firmly behind the troops.

“As representatives of the people, we stand with our national forces and local communities in the fight to eliminate the Al-Shabaab menace,” said MP Abdalla Hussein.

MP Aden Mohamed Nur struck an optimistic tone, saying the militants were nearing collapse.

“The Al-Shabaab are in their final moments. The Somali nation must unite to ensure their defeat,” he said.

Backing calls for greater engagement, MP Ahmed Mashruq suggested deeper parliamentary involvement.

“We stand with our troops, and our side will actively participate in supporting these critical operations,” he said.

The show of unity comes as Somali security forces escalate offensives aimed at dismantling militant strongholds and restoring stability across several regions.

Government officials say recent battlefield advances have boosted confidence that the insurgency’s grip is weakening.
