Somali leaders welcome election of Adan Madobe as Lower House speaker
GOOBJOOG NEWS/MOGADISHU: Outgoing President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo and Prime Minister Mohamed Hassan Roble have issued statements congratulating Sheikh Aden Mohamed Nur (Sheikh Adan Madobe) for his election as the new speaker of the 11th House of the Somali parliament last night.
“I wish to congratulate the newly elected Speaker of 11th Parliament Sheikh Aden Mohamed Nur ‘Madobe’ on his successful elections. I further wish Speaker Madobe a Prosperous tenure as he starts serving the Republic in the new role trusted upon by the members of the Lower House,” read a statement by President Farmaajo.
Prime Minister Roble congratulated the newly elected Speaker and wished him well in his endeavours, especially in handling the country’s presidential elections.
“My sincere congratulations to the newly elected Speaker of the House of the People of the Federal Republic of Somalia, HE Sheikh Adan Mohamed Nur Madobe, who was elected tonight in Mogadishu. I pray to God that the new Speaker of the House of the People will be relieved of his heavy responsibilities and that he will conduct the presidential election in a transparent, swift and peaceful manner, which he shares with the Speaker of the Upper House.”
The presidents of HirShabelle, Puntland, Jubaland and Galmudug also sent their congratulatory messages to Sheikh Adan Madobe for his election as Speaker.
“I congratulate Sheikh Adan Mohamed Nur Madobe on his election as the 11th Speaker of the Lower House. I would also like to congratulate all BFS MPs who have worked hard to elect a permanent leadership to take the country out of this transitional phase,” read a statement from the Galmudug President.
Sheikh Adan Mohamed Nur (Adan Madobe) was last night elected to the helm of the Somali parliament after he garnered 163 votes, defeating MP Hassan Abdi Nur, who received 89 votes.
