Somalia Lauds Sanctioning of Al-Shabaab Members by UN Security Council
GOOBJOOG NEWS|MOGADISHU: Somali government has welcomed the sanctioning of three individuals linked the militant group Al-Shabaab by the UN Security Council.
Information Minister Daud Aweis said the sanctioning of the three militants was in response to a request by the Somali government.
The Federal Government of Somalia applauds the UN Security Council’s decision to sanction three Al Shabab leaders at our request. These individuals are now on the sanctions list under Resolution 2713, facing financial restrictions and travel bans,” the minister said in an X post.
The UN Security Council announced on Thursday the placement of three militants in the sanctions list for their participation in terrorist activities in Somalia.
Abdikadir Mohamed Abdikadir was sanctioned for his role in planning, facilitating, preparing or perpetrating terrorist activities alongside others. Also in the list are Mohamed Mohamud Mire and Mohamed Omar Mohamed.
