Somalia, UN Boost Efforts to Tackle Humanitarian Crisis

GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Somali and United Nations officials have vowed to step up efforts to mobilize aid, identify high-risk areas, and ensure life-saving assistance reaches communities most affected by drought, floods, and conflict.
In high-level talks on Thursday, Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA) Commissioner Mahmoud Moallin Abdulle met with UN Deputy Special Representative for Somalia George Conway and OCHA Head Crispen Rukasha to strengthen cooperation in responding to the worsening crisis.
“The humanitarian situation remains critical, and we must work together to scale up assistance where it is needed most,” Conway said, reaffirming the UN’s commitment to supporting Somalia’s relief efforts.
Discussions also focused on improving transparency and oversight in aid distribution, as well as preparing for the upcoming quarterly Country Humanitarian Forum (CHF), which seeks to rally international support for Somalia’s crisis response.
With thousands displaced and food insecurity rising, officials stressed the urgency of coordinated action. The meeting concluded with an agreement to enhance joint efforts in advocacy, emergency response, and long-term resilience-building.
