Somalia Welcomes Resumption of Key Development Projects in Puntland
GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: The federal government of Somalia has stated that it welcomes the resumption of key development projects in Puntland state.
Planning, Investment, and Economic Development (MoPIED) minister Mohamud A. Sheikh Farah said in a statement that the resumption of the projects signifies renewed commitment to improve the livelihoods of the people of Puntland.
“We are very excited to see the resumption of the Barwaaqo and Somalia Food System Resilience Project (SSRP) projects in Puntland, which signifies a renewed commitment to improving the livelihoods of our people. “These projects are crucial for fostering sustainable development and ensuring a resilient future for all regions,” the minister said.
The minister further said the federal government is committed to depoliticize humanitarian and development projects and to ensure they are implemented transparently and equitably so as to reach the people in need.
“We are dedicated to ensuring that these projects are implemented with utmost transparency and equity, reaching those in need without any political considerations,” the minister stated.
The Barwaaqo project, a comprehensive water management and infrastructure development initiative, as well as SFSRP project aims to strengthen the food systems across the federal member states, ensuring food security and promoting sustainable agricultural practices. Both Barwaaqo and SFSRP was earmarked for all Federal Member States; however, Puntland state unilaterally halted their implementation.
The Barwaaqo project was launched in January 2023 by the Federal Government of S omalia, followed by the Somalia Food Systems Resilience Project (SFSRP) in June 2023.
