GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Turkey has deployed cutting-edge Bayraktar Akinci unmanned combat aerial vehicles (UCAVs) to Somalia, strengthening the country’s counterterrorism operations against Al-Shabaab.

Somali defense officials welcomed the drones, which arrived in Mogadishu on Tuesday, calling the deployment a testament to Turkey’s unwavering support for Somalia’s security efforts.

The advanced UCAVs are expected to significantly enhance the Somali National Army’s (SNA) precision airstrike capabilities and disrupt militant activities.

The Bayraktar Akinci boasts extended endurance, advanced surveillance systems, and the ability to execute long-range precision strikes.

With a maximum payload capacity of 1,500 kilograms, it can carry a wide range of munitions, including SOM cruise missiles, Gökdoğan air-to-air missiles, Bozok guided bombs, and MK-82 bombs.

Turkey has been a key ally in Somalia’s security and development, providing military training, infrastructure support, and defense equipment.

The deployment of Akinci drones marks a major step in deepening this military partnership and reinforcing Turkey’s strategic role in Somalia’s stability.
