GOOBJOOG NEWS|BARI: Two ISIS militants were killed in a U.S airstrike on Sunday in the mountain ranges of Al-Miskad in Puntland’s Bari region.

The U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM) said the militants were killed in a coordinated airstrike with the Federal Government of Somalia.

“In coordination with the Federal Government of Somalia, AFRICOM conducted an airstrike against ISIS-Somalia in Northeast Somalia on Feb. 16. The initial assessment is that the strike killed two ISIS terrorists and no civilians were harmed,” the statement read in part.

The announcement comes amid heightened ground and air operations by Puntland Security Forces which has resulted in the death of several ISIS militants in Bari region.

Puntland said several foreign fighters have been killed or captured alive. Earlier this month, the United States said that a strike on February 1 killed Ahmed Maeleninine, a senior Omani ISIS commander. Maeleninine was accused of being responsible for recruiting and financing the group’s foreign operations, including attacks in the United States and Europe.
