Veteran Politician and Long-Serving Minister Khadijo Diriye Dies in Djibouti

GOOBJOOG NEWS|DJIBOUTI: Long-serving Minister and vocal politician Khadijo Mohamed Diriye has died in Djibouti. She was 60.

Sources have confirmed that Diriye died while attending the Heritage Institute Annual Forum of Ideas in Djibouti. She, along with other ministers, accompanied Prime Minister Hamze Barre to the event.

The circumstances surrounding her death remained unclear. Diriye was born in 1964 in HirShabelle state. She was appointed Minister for Women and Human Rights in January 2015 and served for one year.

In 2017, she was appointed the Minister for Youth and Sports by then Prime Minister Hassan Khaire, a position she served until 2020. She was subsequently picked by current Prime Minister Hamze Barre as the Minister for Women and Human Rights Development (MoWHRD) in August 2022.
